If you are planning a wedding in Ottawa, photography is probably one of the first things you start researching, and one of the hardest to compare. One photographer quotes one number, another quotes something completely different, and the packages do not always include the same things. It is no wonder couples ask me this question first.
I am Mélanie, an Ottawa wedding photographer. I have been photographing weddings since 2021, and I work in an editorial, natural-light style, documenting your day as it truly felt. This guide is meant to help you understand wedding photography pricing in Ottawa, so you can compare quotes fairly and choose the photographer who is right for you, not just the cheapest or the most expensive option on the list.

Why wedding photography prices vary so much in Ottawa
Wedding photography is not one standard product. A quote usually reflects experience, hours of coverage, whether there is a second photographer, editing time, gallery delivery, travel, and what is included after the wedding, such as an engagement session, prints, or an album.
A shorter elopement with a small guest list will naturally cost less than a full day that starts with getting ready in the morning and ends with a late dance floor.

A photographer who has photographed many weddings in Ottawa and Gatineau will also bring something you cannot see in a price list: calm on a busy timeline, a plan for rain, and the confidence to step back and let real moments happen.
That is why two quotes can look very different and both be fair. The question is not only what the number is, but what is behind it.
What is usually included in a wedding photography package?
Every photographer structures packages a little differently, so always ask for the details in writing. Common inclusions are:
- A set number of hours of coverage on your wedding day
- An engagement session, sometimes included and sometimes offered as an add-on
- A second photographer for larger weddings
- Professionally edited, high-resolution images in an online gallery
- Personal printing rights, so you can print your photos for yourselves
- Albums, prints, or wall art, often as optional extras
My collections generally include wedding-day coverage and a hand-edited digital gallery of high-resolution images. Please inquire for the details of each collection, including what is included, engagement options, and pricing for your date. I will confirm availability, collections and delivery details, so we can book your date together.
If a package sounds too good to be true, check what is missing. Sometimes the lower price does not include editing, a gallery, or full-day coverage, and those costs appear later.

What changes the price?
Hours of coverage
This is the biggest factor. A wedding that needs coverage from morning preparations through speeches and the first dance takes far more shooting and editing time than a two-hour ceremony and portraits. Think about the moments you most want remembered, not just the ceremony itself, and choose hours that cover those moments without rushing.
A second photographer
A second photographer can capture your partner’s reaction while I photograph you walking down the aisle, or cover cocktail hour while portraits are happening. It is not essential for every wedding, but for larger weddings or weddings with two getting-ready locations, it makes a real difference to the story.
Engagement sessions and albums
An engagement session is a lovely way to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day, and it gives you photos for invitations or your wedding website. Albums and fine-art prints are another investment, but they are also the way your photos live beyond a screen. I always suggest asking what is included, and what can be added later, so you are not pressured to decide everything at once.
Travel and location
Weddings in Ottawa and Gatineau are local for me. Weddings further afield, including Montreal, Toronto, and destination weddings, may involve travel, and that should be clear in your quote from the start. Travel for weddings outside Ottawa and Gatineau is quoted clearly in your collection, so there are no surprises. Please inquire with your location and date and I will confirm the arrangement.
Affordable wedding photography in Ottawa, without cutting corners
Affordable does not have to mean inexperienced or rushed. If your budget is tight, consider a smaller package that still covers the heart of your day, a weekday or off-season date, or a shorter elopement-style celebration. A good photographer will be honest about what a smaller package can and cannot cover, rather than promising a full day in a few hours.
What I would not recommend is choosing purely on price and hoping the style will work out. You will live with these photos for decades. Look at full galleries, not just highlight reels, and notice whether the photographer captures emotion, light, and real moments consistently, in good weather and in rain, indoors and outdoors.
Questions to ask before you book
- What exactly is included in your package, and what costs extra?
- How many hours of coverage do you recommend for a wedding like ours?
- Will you be the photographer on the day?
- How do you handle rain, low light, or a timeline that runs late?
- When and how will we receive our gallery?
Ask about delivery in writing too: when you will receive your gallery, how it is delivered, and how many edited images are typically included. I will confirm delivery details for your collection when you inquire.
These questions will tell you far more than a price alone, and they will help you feel confident when you book.
A final thought on value
Your wedding photos are one of the few things from your wedding day that last. The flowers fade, the cake is eaten, and the music ends, but your photographs are how you will remember how it felt, years from now. That is why I photograph weddings the way I do, with natural light, honest emotion, and editorial portraits that still feel like you.
If you are planning a wedding in Ottawa or Gatineau and would like to talk about your day, I would love to hear about it.

Inquire about availability
I take a limited number of weddings each season so I can give every couple my full attention. If you are thinking about booking, please get in touch to check your date and talk through your wedding plans. Tell me about your venue, your timeline, and the moments that matter most to you, and I will help you find the coverage that fits your day.
I take a limited number of weddings each season, so please inquire as early as you can, especially for peak Saturdays. Share your date and I will confirm availability.
